There is another way
Training without medication against phantom pain

Phantom pain due to amputation often has a major effect on your daily routine and independence - even years after an operation. And medication often results in side effects that limit your everyday life.

PACT (patient-centered telerehabilitation) is a research and development project sponsored in part by the European Union and Ministry of Health in the NRW Region of Germany. Kaasa health partners with a variety of clinics and universities to search for alternative ways to treat phantom pain.

Together with your help, researchers are conducting a clinical study to examine the effectiveness of alternative, medication-free treatments for phantom pain.

Goal of the Study

Three different therapies that may have positive effects on phantom pain will be compared in this project. In particular, the effects of telereha, a simple and intuitive software, will be reviewed in a medical environment. The goal is to learn if innovative, medication-free products can help patients overcome phantom pain.

What’s in it for You

If you participate in the study, you’ll receive medication-free phantom pain therapy at no cost. And you’ll learn different exercises that you can do alone at home to treat phantom pain. There’s also the possibility to network with other phantom pain patients to exchange helpful tips and advice.

Patient Consideration

The study consists of at least ten in-person therapy appointments (about 30 minutes each) that take place within a period of four weeks at one of our participating clinics in Germany. Afterward, you’ll do therapy exercises at home alone for 6 weeks.

Financial Considerations

Travel costs can be reimbursed, if necessary. Contact Andreas for further details. To thank you for your time, you’ll receive a present at the end of the study.

Study arms

The clinical study examines the effectiveness of three different therapy methods. Participants will be randomly selected for one of the following therapies:

Mirror therapy

Training program for the intact leg

Computer software training program (Telereha)
